Today I want to share a story of someone I have been lucky enough to work with. Julie (not her real name) came to me stating:
I don’t know what is wrong with me I have gained 30lb in the last 7 months, I can’t stop eating, especially in the evenings.
Julie, a very talented graphic designer in her 50s felt obligated during Covid to take on work as a Nurse. A demanding role, requiring her to take care and look after others. It was a busy job role and became apparent that it was really beginning to drain her. She was forgetting about herself and not taking care of herself during the day, and then when she was getting home, she was overeating.
What Julie did not know was that her overeating was also a mechanism for coping with hidden emotions, thoughts, and feelings… All ways of eating that is not because of physical hunger is a way of emotional eating.
During any RTT Hypnotherapy session, we tap into the subconscious beliefs and often root causes of what is causing the presenting issues. During Julie’s hypnotherapy session images kept coming to mind of her not having a voice. She shared with me that she was the youngest of her siblings and had dominant parents.
These are some of the revelations we uncovered during the session:
· I am not listened to
· I don’t have a voice
· I must accept what other people want for me
· I cannot choose
· I don’t have any say in this
· I am powerless
It was all about her not being able to voice her needs, desires, her opinions. During the RTT session, we dialogued about what she wanted to say, what was hidden beneath, and we allowed her to speak her truth and feel heard.
At the end of the hypnotherapy session, it was like she was a completely different person. She realised she had been stuck in this story and belief that she was still the little girl who had to keep quiet and just accept what comes her way. This was leading her to become so frustrated, so angry, while at the same time ignoring her own needs, that she was overeating eating, emotionally eating to sedate and numb the frustration, and fill the hole of what she was lacking: appreciation and power.
A short time after the session she told me she had not once come home and eaten like she had been the past few months. She had also called her boss and told her the hours she wanted to work less, and that she would not work late in the evenings anymore.
Her new working hours opened up freedom for her to do what she wanted and take time for herself in the afternoons. She got a new flair about her, taking better care of herself, and even picked up some new creative and graphic design projects.
One month on…
One month after our first hypnotherapy session, she is a completely different person. She described to me how she was now deciding things on her terms, she was expressing her voice.
The emotional eating and overeating had completely stopped and in one month she had dropped 10lbs. Not feeling occupied at all with food, apart from just enjoying mostly healthy meals.
We can see quite clearly here how the story we tell ourselves subconsciously completely changes our behaviour, our thoughts, and how we feel. By reaching out and getting in touch with a rapid transformational therapist Julie was able to uncover those hidden beliefs and rewrite new ones moving forward.
